Meet the Governors
Ruth Honey- Foundation Governor (Chair of Governors)
I have been a governor at Lambourn school since 2012 and have witnessed a lot of changes at the school including being involved in its transition to an academy. I have been chair since October 2018. I am a foundation governor which means I represent the church on the governing body. I am involved in a number of activities at St Michael and All Angels and am currently secretary of the church council.
I have lived in Lambourn for about 14 years and run a family stud farm next to the school. We breed, produce and compete Event horses.
I have a history degree from Oxford and a MBA from Rochester University, New York. My employment background culminated in being legal director and senior corporate lawyer for a multinational company selling consumer goods and pharmaceuticals. My role meant I was involved in strategic decision making across many parts of the business as well as strictly legal matters. I also had the opportunity to live and work abroad in Europe and the USA.
I have 3 grown up children. All my children have had to overcome the challenge of dyslexia in varying degrees so I have witnessed various strategies for this at close quarters. I have seen education in action in a number of different locations and systems. One of my children received their entire primary education in Montessori schools.
I am passionate about children learning to love to learn and that Lambourn should be a place that unlocks each child’s full potential and gives them wings.
Ross Pengilly - Parent Governor
In my professional career I works as a UK Strategic Account Manager in the Car Rental Industry.
I was excited to be given the opportunity to help set the school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction. My current role as a national strategic account manager has given me the experience required to influence and make important strategic decisions. Prior to this I was a manager for six years in which time I developed very strong operational and development skills which I will use to benefit the school, especially in my Health and Safety role as a governor.
I am involved in the local community as well as local clubs, such as Hungerford Rugby club. My family will be attending the school for well over the next ten years, I therefore have a strong interest in helping to improve the performance of the school.
Rev Julie Mintern - Foundation Governor
My name is Revd Julie and I am the vicar of The Lambourn Valley. I live in The Vicarage on Newbury St in Lambourn and I’ve served in this role since August 2019. Before this I was a priest at St Paul’s church in Wokingham where we had lots of schools within the Parish. I’ve always served in education and that was my profession before becoming a vicar.
Since starting I have been privileged to work with the children and staff at Lambourn CE Primary School. The school is linked with the parish church of St Michael and All Angels and we have a strong partnership. I love both coming to school and welcoming the children to church! I spend quite a lot of time in school leading worship, being part of the governing body, supporting RE learning and leading a lunch time group. I’m looking forward to developing other activities and to really making links within our wonderful village so that we may all learn from one another!
Cathy Mills - Foundation Governor
I am pleased to return to the Governing Body as a Foundation Governor with a particular interest in SEND throughout the school.
During my working life in education i began in a Primary School and then moved to a Special School where i taught across the age ranges from 7 to 16. I was also the Head of a Unit for Primary School Pupils with Special Needs.
I have lived in Lambourn for 9 years, i enjoy village life and participate in many activities which contibute to village life in the 21st Century. I believe that the School and the Church are important to the continuance of a lively and healthy village community, which is why i am keen to see them prosper.
I believe that every child matters and provision must be made to accommodate those who find school life a challenge and wherever possible be helped to overcome their difficulties within the school setting. This is why i am please to have the opportunity to support and challenge the school so that no learner with additional needs is disadvantaged.
I hope to bring my interest in languages as well as my teaching experience to the school community. I am intending to return to hearing children read, as well as visiting the school regulary in my role as Governor.
Alison Webster - Community Governor
I have lived locally in Upper Lambourn for the past 15 years but have been in the teaching profession for almost 30 years. I have taught across the primary range prior and am currently in my second headship at Thatcham Park CofE Primary School.
I am passionate about all schools providing the best possible provision for all, developing the ‘whole child’, and welcome the opportunity to be part of the strategic governance of my local school to help contribute to ensuring all young people are ready and prepared for the next stage in their education whilst fulfilling their extraordinary potential.
In between the demands of working, I enjoy time as a family, enjoying the outdoors, holidays and have also been known to ‘dabble’ in up-cycling!
Working in and around schools all of my life, I have an interest in school governance and have joined the Lambourn local governing board to see what I may bring to the team from my skills and experiences.
Michael Mackay - Parent Governor
In my professional career I work as a Network Repair Engineer for a global telecommunications company. I have been working in the Information technology sector for 21 years.
I grew up in a small town in the Highlands of Scotland so I understand the advantages and disadvantages of growing up in a rural community.
I have lived in Lambourn since 2008
I am an active member of Lambourn Jiu Jitsu club and I sometimes help out with the kids club.
I have 2 children who currently attend Lambourn School and I feel privileged to be able to help improve the performance of the school in any way that I can.
